As seniors in Florida are already aware, living on a fixed income is not easy. Unfortunately the large power companies here aren’t making it any easier. They want you to pay NOW for something you may never have the chance to use – new power plants that are not going to come online until 2018 or later!

Here are the facts:

• Starting in 2010 your electricity bill will start going up.
• By 2018 Progress Energy could add more than $30 a month to your bill to pay for new nuclear reactors in Levy Co. before they ever produce any electricity
• Florida Power & Light (FPL)  wants customers to pay now for two new reactors at their Turkey Point plant near Miami, FL.
• The Florida Public Service Commission (PSC) is voting October 16, 2009 on whether the two companies can recoup nearly half a billion dollars in advance from its customers to pay for these risky new nuclear reactors in docket 09009.

Did you know that the utilities also wanted nuclear power to be called “renewable energy” during the 2009 legislative session in order to get further favorable treatment?

Thankfully they weren’t successful but we can’t allow this to happen next year! Contact the Governor and your state legislators today!
